July to September, during and just after the monsoon

Jua Waterfall is a seasonal fall, and that single fact should determine whether you go.

Go in the monsoon or don’t go

The fall runs on rainfall. Between July and September — during the monsoon and for a few weeks after — it is genuinely worth the drive. By late winter it has reduced to very little, and by April and May there is often nothing there at all.

Visitors who arrive out of season are reliably disappointed, and it is not the waterfall’s fault. Ask at the hotel before setting out; we will tell you honestly whether it is running.

Safety

Monsoon waterfalls in this region need respect:

  • Rocks near the water are extremely slippery
  • Water levels rise quickly and without warning after rain upstream
  • Do not swim in fast-moving water, however shallow it looks
  • Leave well before dark; the road back is unlit

Every year people get into trouble at falls like this by underestimating the water. Please don’t.

Getting there

Around seventy-five minutes by road from Banswara, and the last stretch is rough in the monsoon — exactly when you want to be going. A vehicle with reasonable clearance is sensible.
